Research shows that Retailers' profit margins for sustainable products are, on average, 80% higher than those for conventional products.
Surely, this contradicts with what sustainable products should be aiming for - widespread use amongst the entire population? To achieve this products must be priced at a level affordable for everyone.
Sustainable products are already more expensive than traditional alternatives. In clothing, for instance, organic cotton yields are lower because synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are not used. As a result, the base cost of these products is higher before retailers even add an extra profit margin simply because the item is labeled "sustainable."
Our Mission
At Earth Wardrobe, we want to reverse the script. By making our more-sustainable products as affordable as possible we aim to reach the entire population and maximise our positive impact.
While our profit margin may be smaller, we can still succeed by maximising our order volume and running an incredibly efficient shipping operation.
Setting Standards
Can ethical products truly be low-cost, or is it a paradox?
We need to be very careful to reduce costs without compromising environmental and ethical standards. We can improve the efficiency of our operation, increase economies of scale and reduce shipping costs.
But we cannot lower certain standards just to reduce costs. For example, all our organic cotton products must be certified. Also, our products are produced in facilities that participate in ethical manufacturing programs like Fair Wear or AMFORI.
At Earth Wardrobe, we offer simple wardrobe basics—everyday essentials everyone needs. Our range will remain consistent over time, adhering to the principles of Slow Fashion. While our collection may be simple, we’ll provide a wide selection of colours to give customers plenty of choices.
